Muscular
Dystrophy (MD) refers to a group of disorders that cause progressive
and steady weakening and wasting of the muscles. MD effects people
of all ages.
Partnering
with MD in 1954, the IAFF has raised more that $300 million to help
fight the disorder. Lower mainland firefighters contributed over
$90,000 in 2007 to fund leading research and improve the quality
of life of those suffering with MD.
There
are over 100 neuromuscular disorders under the umbrella of MD Canada
and more than $50,000 Canadians whose lives are effected by the
disorder. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Every
year, Fire Fighters from across Greater Victoria donate their time
to participate in the Boot Drive for Muscular Dystrophy. These drives
are held just after the long weekend every May, and this year Victoria
are Fire Fighters raised just under $60,000. Fire Fighters are spread
out throughout the city, at high traffic areas such as grocery stores,
some holding their hats and others their boots in order to collect
donations.
