Fire 1015 Moss

Dispatch received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 1718hrs on June 23, 2008. Upon arrival there was heavy smoke coming from the roof and attic area of the large three and a half story, multi suited heritage home. Victoria called for mutual aid from Saanich and Oak Bay Fire Departments, and this incident was attended by 5 engines, 2 ladders, 1 rescue and 1 command vehicle, totaling 44 fire fighters.

This fire was approached with an offensive attack from the interior and exterior. Due to this aggressive attack and the excellent firefighting of all crews, this fire was brought under control in a fairly timely fashion.

There was extensive fire damage to the attic area and very extensive water damage to every floor below that, but there were no injuries, and the cause is still under investigation. The total dollar loss estimate is approximately $500,000.
