The
Victoria Fire Department Communications Center received the first
report of this fire at 5:09pm on April 13, 2009. Initial reports
were for a confirmed house fire, and Victoria Fire Department
responded by sending 3 Engines, 1 Ladder, 1 Rescue, and a Command
Vehicle. Engine 3 arrived on scene first and found heavy flames
and smoke showing from the back deck area of the house. Engine
3 crew secured a water supply and immediately started to put water
on the fire. The rest of the crews arrived shortly after and a
second hose line was set up.
BC
Hydro was called to the scene to cut power, and the Ambulance
service attended for Fire Fighter rehabilitation. Emergency Social
Services also attended to assist the displaced occupants of the
house, and a Fire Inspector was called out to determine the fire
cause.
Once
the fire was knocked down, it was found that crews would have
to do a substantial amount of over haul, as the fire had gotten
up into the attic of the house. Parts of the ceiling had to be
pulled down and the roof opened up in order to ensure the fire
was out completely, and a call in crew was brought in to assist
with this task.
There
were no injuries, damages are set at approximately $300,000.00,
and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
