Fire
740 Burdett - Chateau Victoria Hotel
A
call was received by Victoria Fire dispatch at 12:55pm on March 9th
2010 from a workman on site stating that he believed there was a small
smouldering fire in the wall of one of the rooms. The workman had been
soldering some pipes and it appears that the insulation within the wall
of the bathroom was ignited. Due to the fact that the structure is a
high rise building, Saanich Fire Department attended in order to stand
by and render assistance in the event that it was needed.
Engine One
crew attended the suite, and opened up the shower walls in order to
see where the scorching had extended. The insulation was pulled into
the tub and saturated with water, while additional crews checked the
rooms above and below for any hot spots using the thermal imaging camera.
There were
no injuries on scene and damage was assessed at approximately $3000.00.
