Victoria Tigers Combat Team

This group is comprised of some of the more junior members of the Victoria Fire Department and they train to compete in the Scott Firefit Combat Challenge. "The Toughest Two Minutes in Sports" is the motto of the Canadian Firefighter Combat Challenge. It is an International fitness competition based on a high performance five event physical test. More than just a fitness competition it is a competition with a purpose; it's about promoting fitness and doing one of the worlds' most dangerous jobs better. Its fast pace and intense nature fascinates both spectators and media alike.

During the competition, individuals run head to head and against the clock wearing full turnout gear (helmet, coat, pants, boots, gloves, and breathing apparatus).

The Five Tasks are:

Task 1 - Five storey stair climb while carrying 45 lbs. of hose.

Task 2 - Hoist 45 lbs. of rolled hose to the fifth floor landing.

Task 3 - Down the stairs, then hammer a 165 lb. beam a distance of 5 ft.

Task 4 - Run the hydrants, then drag a charged hose line weighing 295 lbs. 75 ft.

Task 5 - Pick up and drag a 175 lb. dummy 100 ft. to the finish.

Firefighters who excel in this type of event also excel at their work, that means saved lives and property in your community.

In 2006 Victoria hosted their first regional event and it was a huge success. Fire fighters from all across Canada and the northwest United States came out to compete, and were well received by the many spectators on hand.

Upon completion of their team relay, fire fighters Scott Mitchell, Jeremy Wilson, Sean Bellagente, and Colin Ward walk back to the start area behind Hilary McRoberts of the firefit organization.

Brad Fair is assisted from the course by two of the many volunteers that help make this event possible.
