"The title - FIRST WATER, TIGERS! -
is part of the Victoria Fire Department's history. It dates
from the era when volunteer engine companies, the TIGERs
and DELUGE, would compete to get the "first water"
on a fire. It was a very real honour for the Company accomplishing
this feat, and was dutifully recorded in the Colonist
for all to see the following day. It is an integral part
of the story and I've never considered changing the title.
This 2nd edition of the book includes a
considerable amount of the first SONO NIS publication which
covered the 130 years from 1858 to 1988. It made sense that
in our 150th year, we should add new material to the earlier
section and bring the story up to date as of August 2008
in a single volume. In this way we will be making this history
available. I'm honoured to have been asked to do this."
